However, the warm caress of the sun's rays can be deceptive, as they come with their share of risks. Understanding why sun protection is crucial not only on sunny days but year-round, can have a profound impact on your health and skin's longevity. Here’s why you should make sun protection a non-negotiable part of your daily routine.

1. Preventing Skin Cancer
The most compelling reason to prioritize sun protection is its role in preventing skin cancer. Sun exposure is the most preventable risk factor for all skin cancers. Regular use of sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher can significantly reduce your risk, even if you're just running errands or driving.

2. Avoiding Premature Aging
We all want to maintain youthful, vibrant skin. Sun exposure is a primary cause of premature aging, known as photoaging, characterized by wrinkles, loss of skin elasticity, and pigmentation issues like sunspots. By using sun protection, you're not just guarding against harm; you're investing in your skin’s long-term appearance and health.

3. Reducing Sunburn Risk
Sunburn can happen faster than you think, sometimes in as little as 15 minutes of exposure. Repeated sunburns, especially at a young age, can increase the likelihood of skin cancer later in life. Moreover, they're downright uncomfortable and can put a damper on your outdoor activities. Regular application of a broad-spectrum sunscreen, wearing hats, and seeking shade are simple habits that protect against this immediate damage.

4. Preserving Skin Health
The sun emits harmful UV rays that can also cause skin inflammation, redness, and weaken the skin barrier, making it more susceptible to bruising, infections, and dehydration. Consistent use of sun protection helps maintain your skin's overall health and robustness.

5. Protecting Every Skin Type
No matter your skin color or type, UV radiation affects everyone. Though darker skin tones have a higher melanin content, which provides some natural protection, it's not enough to ward off skin cancer and other skin-related issues. Comprehensive sun protection is essential for all.

Simple Tips for Effective Sun Protection

Use Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen: Choose a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against both UVA and UVB rays and reapply it every two hours, or immediately after swimming or sweating.

Cover Up: Wear protective clothing, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat to shield exposed skin.

Seek Shade: Especially during the peak sun intensity hours between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Use Extra Caution Near Water, Snow, and Sand: These elements can reflect and intensify the damaging rays of the sun.

Implementing robust sun protection habits is an investment in your future well-being. Start today, because when it comes to sun safety, every day matters. Protect your skin to keep it healthy, youthful, and cancer-free for years to come.

Dehydrated vs Dry Skin: Which do I suffer from?

https://www.prescottskin.com/blog/dehydrated-vs-dry-skin-which-do-i-suffer-from

https://www.prescottskin.com/blog/dehydrated-vs-dry-skin-which-do-i-suffer-from#comments

Uncategorized

In the skin care industry, many people, products, and companies often use the terms "dry skin" and "dehydrated skin" interchangeably. In fact, most individuals will think they have dry skin when in fact, their skin isn't dry at all--just highly dehydrated. You've come to the right place to learn about which ailment you suffer from.

Dehydrated skin. This is a skin condition--not a skin type. Skin types can be summed up into very basic categories: Oily, Combination, Normal, and Dry. These types can be up for debate by certain professionals, but for the sake of this article, these are the four basic skin types. Now, as I stated before, dehydrated skin is a condition. This means that this is a variable in the skin and can change frequently depending on climate, water intake, hormonal activity, product usage, etc. Dehydrated skin means lack of water, or hydration.

Dry skin. This is a skin type. This is classified as skin that is lacking adequate production of oil. Although many are born with dry skin types, typically, as we age our sebaceous (oil) glands are not as active as they once were leading to dry, flaky skin.

The good news is that both are highly treatable. With dry skin, it’s best to use emollient ingredients--ingredients that are oil based. Such ingredients include plant oils and esters. With dehydrated skin, it's best to look at products with humectant ingredients--which are ingredients add or retain water, such as hyaluronic acid and glycerin. These ingredients will take water from your environment and bond it to your skin. Being in an environment that’s more humid than our dry Arizona air will help substantially with dehydrated skin, even using a humidifier in your home can be a beneficial way to help with the comfort of your skin. Keep in mind that you can have any combination of skin types and conditions, which means that you can absolutely have dry and dehydrated skin.

Stay tuned for future blog posts regarding skin types and skin conditions!

January's Product of the Month: Hyaluronic Serum

https://www.prescottskin.com/blog/januarys-product-of-the-month-hyaluronic-serum

https://www.prescottskin.com/blog/januarys-product-of-the-month-hyaluronic-serum#comments

Uncategorized

Rhonda Allison Hyaluronic Serum Rhonda Allison's Hyaluronic Serum is an excellent hydrator for all skin types, especially benefiting those with dehydrated skin.
